Balancing personal well-being and mental health while pursuing personal growth is a common challenge.   • Keep an organized schedule not by hours but by availability. Make sure that your availability for both (your personal and professional life) is 200% and undivided

Debarati’s advice is straightforward and powerful-stop comparing.  

She believes that comparison stifles personal growth and that the only valid comparison one can make is between their present self and their past self.   

Being a freelancer, Debarati has faced many situations where she felt insecure or inadequate and compared herself with others who had different backgrounds, skills, and goals. She tells us how she overcame these feelings and learned to appreciate her value and contribution. She reveals two key insights that helped her to deal with self-doubt and navigate the comparison phase.

She wisely cautions against the deceptive allure of social media, which often portrays only the glossy surface of others’ lives. Comparing oneself to these curated images, she emphasizes, is a fruitless endeavour that hinders personal growth. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your journey, your growth, and your achievements.

She applied 5 key mantras to create a positive feedback experience.  

  • Keep positive feedback public and negative feedback private: This is the thumb rule for effective feedback, as it helps to boost the morale and confidence of the receiver, and also to avoid any resentment or humiliation
     
  • Cultivate a culture of humility and embrace open communication for growth: One should be willing to give and receive feedback and to learn from others   
     
  • Keep clear expectations with the employee and be approachable: One should communicate the goals and expectations clearly to the employee and provide regular feedback on their performance   
     
  • Motivate the team: Motivate through regular compliments, social outings, and casual conversations, and create a safe and inclusive work environment  
     
  • Promote employee independence and acknowledge efforts towards change: One should empower the employees to take ownership of their work make decisions and solve problems on their own
